Abstract
- In Germany’s diverse landscape of media accountability instruments, professional actors are usually ascribed a key role. This country report intends to broaden the perspective by also assessing the impact of economic, political, and public actors in the process of monitoring journalistic performance. It shows that the German Press Council remains a beacon in the quest for quality journalism, but other instruments – particularly at the level of the newsroom and in the online realm – are becoming more influential.
