Novel Blockchain-based, Decentralized, Offline Locking System Sammelbandbeitrag uri icon

Abstract

  • Facilities with a larger number of buildings and rooms as well as users with different, possibly frequently changing access permissions are a challenging task. Infrastructure for additions, changes and removals must be provided, maintained and secured. Depending on the type of locking device and manufacturer, this can require considerable resources and trust. On the other hand, almost everyone today has a smartphone and, at least for some time, an internet connection to receive information and carry them even to locks at places without infrastructure. Combined with blockchain-technology to protect the information against unauthorized changes, every user can transport permissions to the locks. This realize resource-efficient operability and offline environments as well as timely and uncomplicated manageability of the proposed locking system.
